East Side Mad River Greenway Temporary Closure
Hunting Season, November 10th through November 25th, 2007
The East side of the Mad River Greenway will be closed during Deer Hunting
season which runs from November 10th through November 25th. This section
of the Mad River Path follows the Mad River from Meadow Road to Tremblay
Road in Waitsfield. This section of the Path is on private property and
the landowner has requested that this trail be closed during hunting
season. There will be signs and barricades at the access points of the
trail. Last year there were people who chose to ignore the signs and ran
into the property owner when they were on the Path. In situations where
the requests of the landowner are not honored, there is a risk that
permission to use this section of the Path will be revoked and the trail
will be closed to the public. The West side of the Greenway (behind Small
Dog) remains open to the public, as well as the Kingsbury Greenway near
Riverside Park in Warren and the Warren Path near the Warren Elementary
School. Wearing bright attire (both walkers and pets) while on the open
sections of the Path during hunting season is recommended.
Mad River Path work day - Saturday, November 17, 2007
Meet at the Fayston Elementary School at 10:00 a.m. for assignments.
There will be several sections of the Mill Brook Trail that we will be
working on, so if you can't make it at 10:00, please call Carol Thompson
(496-3153) or Rocky Bleier (496-4031) for work locations. Work to be done
will include dismantling an old bridge, leveling out trail surfaces, and
bringing in wood and constructing a new bridge and puncheon. Please bring
hammers, shovels, hoes, lunch, wear sturdy shoes and work gloves.
Catamount Trail Work Day - Lincoln Gap to West Hill Road (Warren)
Saturday, October 20th (rain date Sunday, October 21st) 8:30am
It's that time of year again - grab your loppers and work gloves
and head out for a day of preparing the Catamount
Trail for the winter ski season! Many hands make light work
of removing the brush, branches, and deadfalls that appear on the
Trail each year, and it's a great excuse to get out in a beautiful,
off-the-beaten-track part of the Valley. Come join us for a fun
day in the woods. We will meet at the West Hill B&B at the intersection
of West Hill Road and Inferno Road in Warren at 8:30am. The hike
from one end to the other usually takes about 3-4 hrs. We have several
pairs of loppers and a small hand saw for folks to use, but if you
have a special tool or a chain saw and would like to bring it, please
do so. We suggest you bring water, a lunch and snacks, and wear
gloves and boots (gaiters can help keep your feet dry - there are
some muddy sections and small stream crossings.) If the forecast
calls for buckets of rain, we will switch it to the day after, Sunday,
Cotober 21st.
Please contact Phil & Audrey
Huffman by Friday evening, October 19th if you're planning to
come -- 496-3490.
Geoff & Lauren Slater are also organizing a trailwork day from
West Hill B&B to the Battlegrounds for Saturday, October 27th.

Week of July 8th, 2007
The Vermont Youth Conservation Corp. crew worked on the Chase
Brook site (across the
street from the Fayston Elem. School on German Flats Road). They
built a new bridge and a new trail spur that
made access to the Mad River Path and the Catamount Trail safer.
The crew gave a presentation Tuesday night, July 10th at their camp
site, and welcomed visitors to their meal. Thank you to the Mad
River Valley Rec. District for providing funds for this week of
trail work.
