Distance: 2.1 miles one way
The best location for trail access is located across from the Fayston School on German Flats Road, off of Route 17. This trail, however, is accessible from several places and is more a hiking trail than a walking path. It is also a tough mountain bike ride. There are steep sections, stream crossings, and wet, rocky parts. From the Fayston School the Path heads east, rising quite steeply through the hardwoods of the Chase Brook Town Forest. Part of this area is crossed by the Catamount Trail and is a favorite with mountain bikers and skiers. When the trail emerges onto Harris Hill Road follow it down to Route 17, turn right, go a few yards to Marble Hill Road and reconnect with the trail at the corner in the Tucker Hill Inn parking lot. From here there are steep inclines and declines, stream crossings and wet, rocky sections that take you through a forest dominated by hemlock, cedar and maple.
From Fayston School you can also head northwest on the Path, which is also shared with the Catamount Trail. Beware this section does require careful route finding (look for yellow blazes and the blue Catamount Trail signs to navigate. Head northwest until you reach the Mad River Barn. The trail ends here. Please do not go beyond this point.
