Mad River Path Wins $600,000 Transportation Alternatives Grant for Millbrook Trail Extension
Thanks to a generour VTrans Transportation Alternatives grant, construction will begin on a 50 foot bike/pedestrian bridge and 500 feet of shared-use path between Millbrook bridge and Dugway Road.
This new bridge and path will provide needed safe and accessible bike and pedestrian transportation between businesses in downtown Waitsfield and key recreational sites by providing connectivity between existing paths in Waitsfield.
This project will involve:
1. Construction of 100 feet of shared-use path from existing Austin Walk trail to the southern end of bridge
2. Construction of a 50 foot bike/pedestrian bridge over Mill Brook paralleling Route 100’s bridge
3. Construction of 400 feet of shared-use path from the northern end of the bridge to Dugway Road
The need for this project was formally recognized in the Active Transportation Corridor Scoping Study, which received VTrans approval in 2025. Both paths and bridge will be built at the ADA standard. Thank you to VTrans for their continued support of the Mad River Path!
